ESL Dept
The ESL Department at St. Robert Catholic High School assists English language learners to strengthen academic language and literacy skills as they progress to full participation in mainstream classes. This is accomplished through valuing the linguistic and cultural diversity along with the God-given capacity of each student.
The ESL Program provides:
- an inclusive, safe teaching environment to empower students to take risks in the learning process and develop self-confidence
- an alternative environment for ESL students to complete subject tests and/or exams
- the necessary English skills to assists students to prepare for future studies
- a curriculum that is updated for relevancy and reflects current theories, continuity and methods of language instruction
- assistance for ESL students preparing for the Grade 10 Literacy Test
- support for ESL students’ learning needs and to assist with course selection
- enriching field trips to broaden the Canadian experience of the student
- a positive learning experience whereby Christian values are stressed
